Mega Pickup List, v1.0

Let's begin by making one thing perfectly clear -- this website will not have up-to-the-minute information on injuries, quotes from assistant coaches, starting lineups, or steamy photographs of KG's pubic facial hair.  This, as the name implies, is an attempt at a page worth viewing just once per day.  That being said, I have no qualms with visitors returning multiple times to re-read some of my fantasy musings.  Oh, and don't expect me to list the 5-game averages for fantasy studs and duds, either.  I don't have the patience to pull up player profiles, add 5 games and divide by 5, just so I can say "pick him up."

If you suffered through my blog's inception, you're already aware of my hatred for Shane Battier, the poor man's Trenton Hassell.  The time is right, this late Detroit evening, to actually begin discussing winning.

Obviously, there are no one-size-fits-all solutions.  There are going to be free agents that look outstanding every single night, and those same players will resemble an old zucchini the next night.  It would be darn near impossible to go through some of the ups and downs of the fantasy season this late in the game, so it would seem advantageous to just dive right in.

Guys from Wednesday night that are worth grabbing, and why.  Tonight's theme - Cash4Gold!

The Old Lady with Shitloads of Jewelry recommends:
  • Larry Hughes (Pros: 3's, points, assists, steals. Cons: None...yet.)
  • Ramon Sessions (Pros: assists, steals. Cons: FG%)
  • Kendrick Perkins (Pros: FG%, rebs, blocks. Cons: FT%, points, turnovers)
  • Thabo Sefolosha (Pros: All category beast. Cons: Durant's return will slow him)
  • John Salmons (Pros: points, rebs. Cons: None in particular) - I admit, I messed this one up.  Luol Deng's injury has made Salmons worth grabbing again.
  • Ronnie Brewer (Pros: points, steals, FG%. Cons: None, Utah, and Brewer, are both dominating)
  • Jarrett Jack (Pros: points, FG%, FT%, steals, LOW turnovers. Cons: None)
  • Marquis Daniels (Pros: points, rebs. Cons: Granger takes his starting spot away)
  • Mark Gasol (Pros: FG%, points, rebs, steals and blocks. Cons: If he tires, Darko might stink his way into a few of Gasol's minutes)

Pyrite:
  • Jarvis Hayes - had a good game, but not worth owning in leagues with fewer than 18 teams
  • Phoenix Suns wingmen - Barnes, Hill, and Barbosa are all splitting minutes now; Barbosa should be owned, but Barnes and Hill? Use at your discretion.
  • Daequan Cook - 6 3-pointers, but it came against the Suns
  • Mario Chalmers - see Daequan Cook, minus the 3's
  • Wilson Chandler - started for match-up purposes, but MAY stick in the NY lineup.  If you have an injured player you can drop, taking a flyer on Chandler wouldn't be awful.
  • Nick Collison - Starting for OKC while half the team is dead
  • Joakim Noah - Splitting minutes with Brad Miller; too inconsistent in my book
  • The Golden State Warriors - I heard Don Nelson petitioned to make hoops bigger
  • DeAndre Jordan - Only decent until Zach Randolph comes back
Alright, most posts won't be this long, since I will have already covered the great majority of waiver wire fodder.  Please feel free to email with questions about specific ballers (and PLEASE note your league size), and I will attempt to address any and all inquiries.  One thing I will continue to do is avoid terms like "must-own."  No player is a "must-own" at this point of the season.  If your team is simply unbeatable in assists, there is just no reason for you to grab a guy like Ramon Sessions.  However, that same team might desperately need Ronnie Brewer for his steals.  Always evaluate what your team needs to consistently win before making a move.

Coming Thursday - a brief comparison of 10 and 12-team leagues, then some notes on the short TNT slate.  And man, how great is it that Barkley came back?  One more week of Webber yelling over Payton yelling over Kenny and I might have turned to knitting.
